Anciennement appelée Amogdul (la bien gardée) en Berbère, Mogdura en portugais, Mogadur en espagnol et Mogador en français, Essaouira (الصويرة) (la bien dessinée) est une ville portuaire du Maroc sur la côte atlantique comptant environ 70 000 habitants et le chef-lieu de la province du même nom qui compte environ 500 000 habitants.
Sa médina est inscrite sur la Liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO.
Formerly called Amogdul (the well kept) in Berber, Mogdura in Portuguese, Mogadur in Spanish and Mogador in French, Essaouira (الصويرة) (the well-drawn) is a Moroccan seaport city on the Atlantic coast with about 70,000 inhabitants and the Main Town of eponymous Province which has about 500,000 inhabitants. Its medina is on Unesco list of World Heritage.
Geography
Seaport located on the Atlantic coast, 173 km north of Agadir, 176 km west of Marrakech and 360 km south of Casablanca.

- In 2004, Ridley Scott reconstituted in Essaouira medieval Jerusalem for his movie “Kingdom of Heaven”.
- Hometown of Léon Vuillemain, one of the World War II heroes, was born in Essaouira on March 22nd 1915.
