Presentation

Air cargo refers to the overall transported goods from an airport to another by an airline company. Freight is considered to be, at the same time, goods transport and transported goods by means of :

  • Air freighter: plane equipped to exclusively transport freight –goods;
  • Mixed plane: plane transporting passengers and freight at the same time.

The various contributors to the supply chain –including Mohammed V airport freight are the National Airports authority –ONDA, customs, handlers, in this case Royal Air Maroc – RAM and various airline companies such as DHL for express train transport.

ONDA’s Missions

ONDA is in charge of :

  • Making necessary infrastructure available –hangars / warehouses. 
  • Air terminals regulation and application of international standards in force in the field.
  • Assigning buildings to various operators –see procedure assignment of buildings.
  • Maintenance of freight area.
  • Forecasts and studies to be set up for future development area.

RAM’s Missions

RAM deals with :

  • Handling and physical treatment of freight on runway side, outside freight air terminal.
  • Handling and treatment in warehouses beneath customs authority –storage.
  • Handing-over of goods to the intermediary or product consignee –forwarding agents, firms and/or companies owners of warehouses under customs.

Public services

Public services present at Mohammed V airport freight air terminal and holding a major activity are customs authority and veterinary control, see phyto-sanitairy.

Characteristics of Mohammed V airport freight area

Mohammed V airport freight area puts at the service of professionals buildings which are adapted to their activities in particular warehouses, offices and hangars.

Occupancy system :

1- Ordinary warehouses: Where the already Customs cleared goods are stored and waiting for removal.

2- MEAD warehouses –customs clearance warehouses and surfaces: In fact customs clearance warehouses and surfaces can be located on an external site where customs clearance can be carried out. These warehouses are governed by national customs regulations in force.

a. Warehouses :

Warehouses surface is 4.688 m² –50.46 ft² and is distributed as follow :

  • Warehouses assigned to forwarding agents: 12 warehouses from 200 to 388m²;
  • Warehouses assigned to public services and transport: 7 warehouses of 200m²;
  • Warehouses occupied by customs –auctions, of 200m².

b. Offices :

The total surface of offices is 309m ² and is distributed as follow :

  • Offices assigned to forwarding agents: 10 offices from 10 to19m²;
  • Foreign airline companies: 1 office of 57 m² –613.54 ft²
  • Public administration/Customs: 1 office of 18m².

c. Hangars

The total surface of hangars is 10.699m ² and is distributed as follow :

  • Hangars assigned to forwarding agents: 1 hangar of 190m²;
  • Royal Air Maroc: 1 hangar of 10.509m².
